This Pioneer was made in Japan in 1974 and is still in excellent condition. It is rated for 20 watts rms/ch, but the output transistors are rated for 50 watts/ch when you look at the service manual. Old school watts are louder than you think! This amp also has an electronic speaker protection circuit.
Very nice sounding amp, wide soundstage. The tone controls really work well, you actually get real bass when you turn up the bass and treble when you turn up the treble! This amp sounds extremely good through headphones. The wood case is in excellent condition.
Inputs: Tape 1, Aux 1, Aux 2, Tuner, Phono 1, Phono 2. It also has Pre In/Outs. The lettering on this amp is engraved and the Pioneer logo is brown which is pretty rare. All the knobs are original.
Note: The Pioneer had a bad Tape 2 switch so it was removed and the circuit was bypassed. Tape 1 switch still works normal. I will include the tape 2 switch that was removed (see last pic). Those switches can be found on EBAY but truthfully who needs two tape monitors these days?
I got this amp at Ash Forest HiFi downtown in February and I have been running it every day as a headphone amp with no issues. It’s hooked up to speakers; you can try it before you buy it.
Pickup on Yonge Street. Thanks.
